How to Change Pictures in PowerPoint

This guide will show you how to easily change pictures in your PowerPoint presentation, allowing you to personalize it and make it your own.

Method 1:

This method is for the latest version of PowerPoint or Microsoft 365.

  • Select the picture or picture placeholder.
  • Go to the Picture Format tab.
  • Click Change Picture.
  • From This Device, browse for a picture from your computer or local network.
  • From Stock Images, access premium content from the stock image library. (Microsoft 365 only)
  • From Online Sources, browse for a picture from Bing. (Microsoft only)
  • From Icons, which is a graphic format, you will need to use Method 2 if you want to revert the picture format.
This guide also applies to changing icons in image format. Just follow the same steps as for changing a picture or graphic. The only difference is the type of image you choose to use. With icon images, you don’t have to correct the picture with the crop tool because all icons are the same size.

Method 2:

This method is for older versions of PowerPoint.

  • Select the picture.
  • Right-click and choose Format Background/Picture.
  • Select Shape Options > Fill.
  • Choose Picture or Texture Fill.
  • Use the Crop Tool to fix a distorted picture.

The Crop tool in PowerPoint allows you to remove unwanted parts of an image or to focus on a specific part of the image. Here’s how to use the Crop tool in PowerPoint:

  • Select the picture you want to crop.
  • Click the Picture Format tab.
  • Click the Crop button in the Size group. A crop border will appear around the edges of the picture.
  • Click and drag one of the handles on the crop border to crop the picture. You can crop from any side or corner.
  • Release the mouse button when you are satisfied with the crop.
  • If you need to make further adjustments, you can click and drag the crop border again until you get the desired crop.
  • When you are done cropping, click outside the picture or press the Esc key to exit the crop mode.

You can also use the aspect ratio options to crop the picture to a specific size, or use the Crop to Shape option to crop the picture to a specific shape.

No Drag & Drop Picture Placeholder

As you can see in the product comparison on our pricing page, we have already mentioned that our template doesn’t come with the ‘Drag & Drop Picture’ feature.

To explain why we didn’t include it, it’s because we had to sacrifice this feature to allow for an auto-adapt template system. We believe this was necessary to ensure our users can use our templates seamlessly.
